This is how I cured my slice. Now I hit sexy draws, and the occasional hook. I’ll assume readers understand golf terminology. I will try to include some explanation in layman’s terms.

Here’s how you do it: Everything is IMPORTANT … an error from the basic will result in a slice no matter what you do.

1. a) Have a Neutral or Strong grip. Neutral Grip = The right palm is facing the target line direction Strong Grip=the right hand is “slightly” under the shaft

1. b) Hand position is in middle or in front of the inner left thigh. (Personal Preference)

2. Ball placed in front of your left heel … not toes or middle. *LEFT HEEL, for some it’s the left armpit* IMPORTANT

3. The distance between the left heel to right heel is shoulder distance..NOT hip distance.

4. Distance from your hands to your… umm… crotch (for lack of better word, sorry ladies) is just nice, not too close or too far. Be comfortable.

5. Knees slightly flexed, spine angled. Achieve with this move. Stretch arms and point club forward. Forearms are around ribcage level. Imagine sitting oneself down on a high chair.. and sit. This will result in a slight flex in the knees. Next, bend spine until club face touches ground. Keep chin up.
You should be able to see the index and middle knuckle of your left hand with your left eye. Wrist is angled, not too “cocked” or too straight. Again just nice. (Any extremes in the wrist angle or knee flex or spine angle will result in errors … no extremes allowed in golf)

6. Count 1: Take away with hands, while maintaining pressure between bicep chest. Keep hands straight. This are your constants so that your arms don’t flail around.

7. Count 2: Shoulder turns and allow wrist to cock naturally. At the top position, right elbow points down. Slight flex in left elbow is ok.

8. Count 3: Shift weight slightly to left and hands follow naturally. Moving the hands 1st will cause a slice.

9. Remember where your hands were at address? Well they should come back to the same spot. During impact between the club head and the ball, The body will be tilted to the right (if you’re a right hander), and you should feel that you’re hitting against a firm left side, left foot firmly rooted into the ground. Left armpit is not exposed but rather, tucked in. Belt buckle facing left.

10. Follow through, by swinging hands to the right and to the top. Allow the right heel to come off the ground.

If you follow these tips, you will hit a sexy draw …

There is nothing worse than hitting a golf ball and watching it curve off to the right. I know a lot of tour players play a fade but that’s another story. A fade is a controlled movement of the ball, a slice is a sign of a serious problem in a golf swing. Here are some golf swing tips to help you cure your slice.

Fist thing to do is check your grip. If you can see more than two knuckles of your left hand (if your right handed) when gripping the club then you need to move it to where two is all you see. If the v of your right hand is pointing to your chin or left shoulder then you need to move it to where it points to your right shoulder. If you had to do either of these then you had a week grip with one hand or the other. If you had to move both hands then you probably could not hit anything but a slice.

Second I want you to hit 50 balls with a abnormally closed stance. Set up with the ball off of the inside of your left heel. From there pull your right foot back naturally closing your shoulders. Hit 50 balls like this but keep your body quiet. It will feel weird but just keep the feeling of keeping your back to the target as long as you can. Do not try and kill the ball like John Daly here. What we are after is a feeling of letting the club come from the inside instead of over the top like you have probably been doing. After the first 50 balls slowly begin bringing your right foot back to normal position. Do not just bring the right foot back to normal after 50 balls. Move it a little forward and hit a few, then move it a little more forward and hit a few more.

The third part will be to rotate your forearm. Notice I did not say anything about your wrist. Your wrist will follow what your forearm does so do not worry about them. When you are coming into the impact area I want you to roll your forearm like you are hitch hiking. To get a good visual of what I am talking about extend your arm up with your thumb out like you would be hitch hiking. As a car goes by rotate your forearm to the left. Did you see what your wrist and hand did? Now take that feeling and put it on the golf ball.

From years of teaching the game as a professional and time spent playing on various golf tours these are three tips that have helped many students fix their slice. These drills will not cure your slice forever is you do not have the proper fundamentals.

You have probably heard all the different techniques for curing your slice (the number one problem with amature golfers). Change your setup, do this or that with your hips, adjust your swing plane path, etc. While many of these tips will help you, until you have the proper grip on the club, all that other stuff won’t matter. The proper grip will help all those other teaching tips fall into place naturally.

Let me explain 4 simple steps to assure the correct golf grip so as not to produce a slice.

1. Grab the club with your offhand (left hand for right handers). What most golfers do … they take the club and rest it on the ground and take their grip. What this does is lets the club lie underneath your left thumb pad. This feels natural, but this is actually incorrect. What you need to do is hold the club up in the air with your right hand at a 45 degree angle. Now place the club in your left hand right along the base of your fingers. See how different the angle is? This is the proper starting position with your left hand.

2. Time to grip it now. With the club still in the air at a 45 degree angle, slowly wrap your fingers around the grip starting with your pinky. This will produce a strong grip and keep the hold along the base of your fingers, not just under your thumb.

3. Most golfers will put their thumb down the right side of the handle. This will restrict you wrist hinge as you come down through the ball. What you want to do is place your thumb right on top of the middle of the handle. This will produce the wrist hinge that you want.

4. Now place your right hand onto the club. Some golfers like to interlock their pinky’s. It really doesn’t make a difference for this drill. Now that you have the club with both hands you need to get into proper alignment to the target. It’s common to have your left forearm point to the right of the target and have your left elbow point right at the target. This setup makes it difficult for the left elbow to fold after impact. The correct setup would be to have your left forearm point directly at the target and have your left elbow point at your hips. This will allow for a circular swing path and allow you to stay on plane.

Follow these 4 simple steps and you will be well on your way to hitting straighter shots more consistently. Remember it all starts with the grip.

Do you find it impossible to consistently hit your driver down the middle of the fairway? If so, it can be difficult to improve your score, no matter how hard you try. Today we have a few tips that will show you how to cure a golf slice permanently!

Over time, our golf swings continue to pick up habits, most of them bad. Some people that have a problem slicing the ball, turn their body to the left and aim toward the left side of the fairway. In a short time, an individual’s swing can become so corrupted, that they find themselves unable to hit the ball straight at all with their driver, and they have to resort to using 5 woods or even irons.

Today, I have a couple tips that will show you how to cure a golf slice:

1. Keeping your wrist flat.
Many golfers will cup their left wrist or bend it at the top of their backswing. This however, will cause your swing to never fully develop correctly. During your backswing, make sure your left wrist stays flat.

2. Rotate your hands.
After the swing, where are your hands? Your right wrist should rotate during the downswing and be on top of your left wrist at the point of impact. This rotation seems unnatural to many, but it is crucial to avoiding the golf slice. Put in some time at the driving range with this tip and make sure you’re rotating those hands properly.

3. Proper Balance Before the Swing.
A middle infielder waits on the pitch by keeping the knees bent, facing the plate and staying perfectly balanced so that he can react to the hit. The golf swing is the same way. Bend your knees, face the ball, and don’t start off the shot by leaning in any direction. Keeping yourself balanced is crucial, as is keeping the knees bent and being properly set.

A great golf swing is NOT impossible to learn. If you want to know how to cure a golf slice, these tips are a great start and might just fix your specific problem. As with any new tips or information, the way to test them out is by spending time on the driving range.
